250 stimulus and retired public school teachers

Are retired public school teachers able to claim the $250 stimulus credit if they don't receive social security?

    #2
Not in this area since they were all covered by FICA tax. This may not be true everywhere.
Look at their prior year W-2 forms to see if FICA was withheld.

Several teachers do not pay into Social Security which is why they would not received the money.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

It would depend upon the state.

Here they do not pay into FICA and some do not pay into Medicare either. I have not taken the time to figure out the difference. But most did qualify for the government pension $250.

          Ct

CT teachers hired way back with my hubby in the 1970s did not pay into either FICA nor Medicare. More recent hires pay into Medicare only, and many of them have reached retirement.

How were you able to determine that? Did they also have a separate govt pension?

Am I missing something? How do you claim a $250 credit?

Making Work Pay is $400. The $250 came about when the Politicians decided to appease the Geezers with a special payment that might possibly offset any additional Making Work Pay money that was "earned?.

If they have a Fed, state or Local government pension that did not pay into FICA they might be eligible for the $250 If they did not receive the payment last spring. You have to check on every one of them to see if they did.
