    Marriage problems

Have a client (taxpayer) that is having marital porblems. Spouse has called requesting a copy of last 3 years tax returns (returns filed MFJ). Can I give her the copies without taxpayer (Client) knowing or permission. Spouse has said if this causes a problem for me not to do it. Not sure if I could give her copies without letting husband know.

Either spouse has a right to any and all copies of MFJ returns. Also, you don't have to inform the other spouse. After all, either could get them from the IRS. You can charge for the copying though.

On a MFJ return, the spouse is just as much your client as the husband, so has just as much right to the return as he does. Look at telling the other one this way - If they were not having problems and one of them came by and asked for a copy of the return, would you tell them that you had to ask the other party?

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".
