    USA - Canadian Return

Client, moved to Canada (Toranto) in Nov, 2009

Has USA income from Jan 09 - Nov 09 and Canadian income from Nov 09 - Dec 09.

Can anyone help me. I have never filed retrun for such situation.

    Thanks!

You are going to need more help than we can give you. Canadian tax law is quite different from US in a lot of ways. Some things are the same. Start with the IRS Pub 597 for Tax Treaty Between US & Canada. Then you will have to download a lot of stuff, forms and instructions from the Canadian Dept of Revenue site. There may be credits to offset double taxation in both countries. I would recommend having him contact someone in Canada to do the Canadian return. You can do the US.

      Canandian Bacon

I swear, I thought the title said "Canadian Bacon." It's official, I've lost it.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, and wish I could help. Sorry.

Yeah, and I REALLY wish I could lose that extra "n" in the title, too. Geez.
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Yes, there are a few titles I would like to edit. Is there a way? New feature?

I used to be a CGA. Dropped the designation as it is not useful in the US. I do a lot of Canadian - US tax returns. Is your client a US citizen? If so, a normal 1040 reporting world-wide income and a foreign tax credit for Canadian taxes paid. The Canadian tax return will only reflect income while a Canadian resident. There are various flavors of resident, be careful. I would do the Canadian one first, then the US return. If you need more help, email me outside of the board.

Thank you. It is extremely simple return (at least USA portion). I will email you.
