Taxpayer lives on a very rural road. In icy and snowy weather which rarely lasts more than a day or two at a time, he can't get even a 4wd truck up the last hundred yards to his house. His physical condition is such that he can't walk that distance even in perfect weather. On the other hand getting out is never a problem so what he does is go out on business and when he can't get home he stays in a motel. I am thinking that's a nondeductible expense but what say you?

If he's out on business then I think it's deductible. Seems there has to be a standard of resonableness applied here. But maybe I'm just being too forgiving as I'm leaving for church on Easter Sunday. Hope everyone has a nice Easter and that we take time to remember why those of use who celebrate it should be eternally grateful for today.
