    Iowa return

I need help finding the school district number for Altoona. I have been all over the website, but have been unable to find it. Is there something specific I need or somewhere else I can look? If you could provide this to me, that would be great.

Also, is it common to have to input the Federal refund from last year into the return? This is a new client, so I assume that next year, I will not have to manually input this?

One last question. Does the state treat education credits differently from the Fed?

    Thank you, Dennis

Dennis> I just did an IA return. You first need to know the county they live in, then your program should give the school district codes. Call your client......

Education credits I also could not find. I looked in the TTB all state and there is no mention of ed credits.

Regarding your question, you might try the NATP website and on the left side of screen
there is a title, Tax Preparers, or something like that, click on that and then type in
Iowa when it asks for location. It will bring up some names with Phone & Fax numbers.
Just call one and ask. They are usually co-operative on things like this.

According to Kleinrock's All States Quick Answers book, Iowa provides deductions for contributions to the college savings Iowa 529 plan, and allows the federal amounts for student loan interest and tuition & fees. Additionally, there is a credit for amounts paid for a dependent child's tuition & textbooks for grades K through 12 in an accredited Iowa school.
