    Dependent Soc Security Benefits

I have a client that her son receives 10,600 Soc Security Benefits. His dad is deceased. She provides more than 1/2 of support. The benefit comes in under the sons social security number. Will I need to report this on the return anywhere.

    No

It does not go on Mom's return.

When son gets older and has to file a tax return, it will go on his return.

I have to do a tax return for a minor who gets SS because she also has income from a trust fund left to her by her grandmother. The SS goes on her return along with the investment income.

I shouldn't have said "when he gets older." I should have said that anytime a child is required to file a tax return, the SS benefits go on their return. I've done a few of those myself.

          sorry

If this is the child's only income..no return and not on mom's return.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

              See the precious

discussion about the $250 that the child may have received. It seems that dependents who got the $250 make it hard to electronically file the return.
