    Any Suggestions?

TaxPayers spouse passed away in April 2009. TaxPayer got married in October 2009. She will file MFJ with new husband. Would prior husband file single?, yes, Who would sign his return? Who would be liable for his tax owed? TaxPayer collected his insurance and paid all his bills.

    Thanks

I would think the answer to who is responsible would hinge upon whether a representative was appointed by the court. If taxpayer lived with him, collected his insurance and paid his bills she might be ethically responsible, but that does not necessarily make her legally responsible. Also, if there was a home involved that IRS could levy against, that would need to be considered. Sometimes, with everything considered, even if not legally required, it is simpler just to handle it, if not a large amount. I would think it would hinge also upon if there was a will. Just my thoughts.

Just a thought, but I'll bet the new husband is against paying anything.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".
