    W-2 Box 32?

New client with US Postal Service W-2 - never saw so many boxes - Box 32: Employee Business expense has amount of $5,232.77. I can't find an explanation for box 32?

Do any of you have any experience w/ Postal W-2's or have any idea what this number represents?

    Mileage?

I haven't had a w-2 from the post office for a while, but it seems to me that the figure might have something to do with the vehicle expenses - mileage reimbursement.

      they use their own cars

One part of the government pushes e-file like crazy, while another part refuses to standardize income statements!

I have some postpersons but I've never seen anything in Box 32 (which is labeled Employee Business Expense). As far as I know USPS pays for everything and gives nothing for free to the workers. Maybe it's different in rural areas where they use their own cars.

I'll give the client a call tomorrow to try to find out more. I appreciate the help.

          W2, Box 32

is the amount of nontaxable reimbursement. Any expense greater than the reimbursement amount can be taken as an itemized deduction subject to 2% AGI. Around here we see Box 32 info for rural mail carriers, but I haven't had one that had excess expenses.
