    Ca Return Es

I'm doing a CA return and the ES part of the return is not printing the 9/15/10 payment amount. Is my program in error or is that the way CA does it?

    worksheet= 5,040
    1st pay 1,512
    2nd pay 2,016
    3rd pay 0 ????????
    4th pay 1,512

    All equal 5,040

    Software

Bob W- that is interesting about your program not printing 9/15 ES payment, and I know we use different software,

I have had this issue at my software company for the last 2 weeks, and still no resolve. I have to manually manipulate the ES payments for the Calif clients.

I emailed Dennis and he said his is printing 4 equal payments. If you are having the same issue I am it must be a program update so that CA gets more money faster to solve some of their problems. I wonder if CA is going to give penalties for those that make equal payments...???

I am in CA and they are not doing 4 payments just 3. The first payment is going to be double the normal than the rest broken over the remaining two. I do not know the thinking behind this except there is an election in Nov. and maybe they do not want the taxpayers to think of the last payment that they just made 2 months before hand.

It is not a software problem.
CA started this nonsense last year. They want more money before their fiscal year end in June.
          Last year it was paid 30%, 30%, 20%, 20%.
          This year they want 40%, 30%, 0%, 30%.
This way the state coffers are artificially inflated at year end & the windbag politicians in Sacramento can run around like a bunch of drunken sailors on shore leave.

            ES pymts

I confirmed the CA percentages with Bob in email and thought his w/s was correct. I thought he was having a software or printing issue. I was not having that issue.

Also, I mentioned to him that I have never let the software figure my ES vouchers, I always do a manual entry on those.

I would imagine they will, if the percentages are not correct.

yep, why else would they do something so screwy?

For all of you out of state-ers, if it looks wierd, try reading the instructions. CA is changing laws so quickly and wierdly assume nothing. And if you did 4 equal payments, I'd redo them for your clients before the 15th.

Agreed. I did not do 4 equal payments, but agree with your advice to others on that particular point.

hey, they had to pass a law that withholding would NOT be considered to be ratably paid or that it was exempt from this mandate for estimates just so W-2 people wouldn't be subject to penalties.

I can't imagine trying to annualize income this year!

As far as I know NY is not doing that. But I've been known to pay some business owners an end of the year pay with lots of withholding and get it treated as evenly throughout the year. This has been going on for years.

Appearently CA is clamping on this cashflow issue.
