Mailed Fed return in w/o W-2 stubs, now what?

Client mailed in Fed tax return without W-2 stubs due to form 5405. Has this happen to any of you and if so what did you instruct your client to do?

    No W-2's

The IRS will most likely mail back the whole return, then resubmitt with W-2's. Inform the client to expect a rather long delay, just sit back a wait for the IRS to respond.

He who sits on tack is better off.

I did the same thing because it's been so long since I had to prepare a mail in return. I woke up in the dead of night, no sweat, tho'. What I did was mailed the proper w-2's etc with copy of page one of the return to when the return was filed. One client has received the FTHBC, about two weeks after I mailed the withholding info. Got2, same with me

I have not filed a paper return since I cannot remember but we drew up a short simple letter of explanation, attached a copy of page 1 & 2 of original return and their W-2 Fed stubs and mailed it off. Did the IRS reply that the tax return was incomplete or were they able to match the W-2 with original tax return?
