I know what you mean about the heart palpitations, I have taken HOH for same situation and my heart was racing - oh now what did I do! Swipe of forehead - shew!

Doesn't sound like mom filed only to get a refund of w/h taxes- she filed for EIC & ACTC.

If child lived w/mom more the half the year, she is mom's QC. No exemption for grandmother. I don't see how son's approval is relevant.
I agree with BP. If I'm thinking correctly, you need to count nights, the issue with support is that the grandchild could not have provided more than 1/2 of their own support.

I agree as well. The only issue left is 1/2 support. If child stayed with grandma over 1/2 it's hers, if child stayed with mom over 1/2 it's mom's.

Mom doesn't have QC if child didn't stay with her over 1/2. The only way that would change is if son signed over exemption to mom but then no EIC for her.

Son doesn't have filing requirement, so he is counted as not having QC either.

Sandy, I sure hope we all helped you to now feel confident all around. Before I posted my first post I thoroughly went through TTB. Since they started to change the rules some years back I feel totally dumb.

        Ugh on Dependents

Yes Gretel, - I agree and feel really "dumb" when it comes to these dependency issues, and I have been plagued by them all this last week, trying to sort it out and follow the rules. It is like a maze, and I can not find the end.

All of the posts assisted me, more than you know

A very big Thank you to all that posted on this issue

        Sandy
