If a taxpayer has 160,000 partnership income and unreimbursed partnership expense of $ 5000, does the $ 5000 reduce the amount subject to medicare tax? Since SS is maxed out, the only question is for the 2.9% for MCare--but every dollar counts.
I thought it should reduce the SE tax but my program wasn't deducting it. I finally found that I needed to check a box indicating the partner was a GENERAL partner. After I checked that box, it reduced the SE tax.
