that if you refinance your home at a lower rate you are entitled to the $6,500 credit? My client came in today and said that her neighbor's tax preparer did it for her. Wow, where have I been with all my updates.

No telling
Working on one now where the folks were certain they qualified for SOMETHING. Purchased new home 4/03/09. Lived in home they owned eight years prior to that. They even held out hope that the old home wasn't really a home because it was "just a mobile home".
One couple thought they qualified for $6500 by virtue of owning a home "for a long time". No new purchase.
And, for the last 100 years (OK, 15) everybody I have thinks they can write off changing out their kitchen cabinets. (Don't know why I threw that in. Totally unrelated. But, bothers me quite a bit.)If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.Comment
