NT / Exec Directors / What exactly do they know?

Well-paid director for a very big non-profit (in my town anyway), had me set up a budget for them for 2010. So, I print the income statements for Jan and Feb (with the budget figures listed that HE GAVE ME) and I get this e-mail:

"Morning Rita, notice additional info. on reports that included comparisons - Great, I may need to run by a spend a few minutes with you to education me and make sure I have data that correctly reflects our need. Let me know your availability."

Yes, I will be happy to "education" him. See this budget you told me to enter? Ta-da!
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

They are paid for "who" they know with deep pockets and not 'what' they know.

Be glad they used their spell checker!

Probably turned off the 'granma' checker because it was such an annoyance.

My older brother sat on the board of directors for his town's public library. They relied on him to help raise money for a new wing from a local citizen who had donated a baseball field to the city. Although the donor did not donate the funds for the entire wing, the donor was the largest donor for the project.

      our state

had an "issue" with a Director of a Senior Center in an extremely rural area - he made $500K plus many weeks vacation, plus big SUV, plus tanning bed, big screen TV, pool table in his "office area". Also employed girlfriend and adult children. Had very lucrative retirement account set up also! He answered to a "board of directors" made up of elderly (mostly women) who apparently rubber stamped whatever he put in front of them - State tried to find something on him but couldnt - Feds stepped in charged him with multiple counts and finally convicted him on ONE charge of falsifying some payroll records - charge WAS overturned on appeal! What a sweet deal huh?

We had a major stink here in NC a while back over one of these overpaid and under-supervised directors of a non-profit organization. I think the lawsuits are still flying and I wouldn't be surprised to see more fallout of a legal nature at some point. But whatever happens, I'm convinced that the organization itself has sustained permanent damage to its fund-raising efforts as a result of this sordid situation.
