Wow! EVERYONE here seems so helpful and kind. Another board I'm a member of may give you a disparaging reply to your question if they feel it's stupid. I posted a question here and got a nice, friendly reply from Gretel (thanks Gretel), and others. I was also researching the answer on my own, too. Thanks everyone. I could have joined this Board last year, but didn't realize it was here, but now I do!!

I agree, Terry - I have been using the board from the beginning, and the difference of which you speak is the result of efforts by The Tax Book.
We have had a history with some members who did the things you mentioned. A couple would make fun and disparaging comments at others, insult other posters, we even had one who would intentionally give people wrong answers and think it was funny. We had also had tax protesters, and spammers/advertisers.
The board did not free itself of this kind of activity without considerable effort. The monitors at TTB spend time reading the material, although I seriously doubt they have time to read every post. They have had to password-protect, and remove access from certain members who insisted on doing the things described above.
I am obviously one of the biggest fans of TTB and this board, and speak the above so others may realize that operating a helpful and clean forum such as this one is not something that just happens all by itself. It takes time, resources, and a helpful mindset.

Yes, welcome, Terry! I know exactly what you are saying. I have noticed on another board I visit, there is one contributor in particular that has to "one up" everybody, think of the LEAST possible case scenario, etc.
The contributors here are really interested in helping and learning, not showing off. So, glad to see you here and among friends!If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.Comment

Welcome, Terry. I too love this board. As an EA working alone in an office in my home, this board helps me tremendously when I need someone to bounce thought processes off.
This board has many extremely knowledgeable posters. You will enjoy reading and participating on the board.
Sometimes I hesitate to make comments because I feel like some know so much more than I do, but I also know that we can all help each other.
