In the early 90s I thought NY was successful in getting taxes out of outstaters who were there on business based on days spent in NY. As a downside on that people who worked in NY started allocating their income out of NY based on business travel days outside of NY. Nephew is an investment banker who lives and works in NYC. He travels with his job a great deal. Is there still the ability to allocate W2 wages out of NY, on what form(?), based on business days spent out of NY??????????

nys resident
as a nys & nyc resident all of his income is subject to nys and nyc tax. if he worked in another state he would have to file a non resident return for that state and allocate the income earned while working in that state. he would receive a credit on nys return for the tax paid to the other states.

I hope your right
I know in the 80s and 90s the state was successfully winning on outstaters spending to much time in the state, conducting their business. When they did a friend had a guy working for a recording label in NYC and they split income to in state and out state in the same fashion that the State was assigning out state income to the state. He was a resident of CT and worked in NYC and it was a good benefit. I remember the discussion was did New York state get more in using days in state or have more go out when New York workers did the same thing. The label guy got a benefit, but not as much as CT taxes went up, but NY and NYC taxes went down. There was no reporting in the other states. Filed NY, NYC and CT.
Thanks.......... These were not ballplayers or entertainers either.
