    TAX - Drake/ProSeries

Tax, I noticed that you switched from ProSeries to Drake. I highly appreciated if you could share your experience with me once the madness is over. I want to switch this year after hearing so much praise about Drake.

I am also interested in anyone else' opinion who made the same switch.

    My e-mail is taxes@taxesnthings.com.

    Thank you.

My experience converting to PS from TaxWise

I don’t know how Drakes conversion works but I can tell you when I switched from TaxWise to PS, it was a complete nightmare and the PS salesman promised a smooth one. That is reason one I probably wont change for a while and 2nd, believe it or not, since finding out in early 2008 that TurboTax files can open up in ProSeries, I have had a handful of new clients bring in their TT files and yes it works very well opening up TT files.

Today I talked to a tech support person at PS who also has a practice. We briefly got talking about TT being compatible and he told me PS was designed that way and then I thought I heard him say something. That something I thought I heard was when a DIY uses TT and gets into a bind, the DIYer can click to locate a local professional tax preparer (PS user). When asked if TT has that he replied no but what a great idea.

I haven't ran into any problems updating from Taxwise to Drake. There are of course a few things that did not carryover like Schedule D carryover losses, Dependent Care Provider Information, and some minor balance sheet entries in S-Corps. Haven't had a problem with depreciation schedules. So far everything is matching up.

I have to say I am very happy with Drake. I have called Tech Support a several times just because I am still learning. I knew where something was suppose to show up but wasn't sure where to put it in Drake. They always knew what I was talking about and had a answer very quickly.

I can say that I was worried that the switch would get me behind but it hasn't. The only thing I miss is the "What if Mode" Taxwise had. That always came in handy. Doesn't seem Drake has just a one click switch over like that.

I will certainly share my thoughts. I am still going through "Conversion Process".

        Thanks!
