    1098-t

Student begins classes 2010. Student pays tuition 2010. Student receives 1098-T dated 2009. Cannot take credit in 2009, right? Can it be taken 2010? Dependency is not an issue. Not a dependent. You've all been so helpful in the past and thanks in advance for this one!

See pg. 12-3 TTB. If the tuition paid was for the first 3 months of 2010, payment qualifies as deduction in 2009.

      Yeah

Yeah, and I hate that. Just when you get them convinced that "it's medical/property tax/whatever you paid IN 2009..."

If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Thank you so much. I have this bad habit of asking when I should look it up and you have indulged me nicely. I can't find stuff in the Fridge either (have to move something)

I'm thinking about changing my user name to MuchaDUE. How do I do that?

The truth rather is you don't bother looking hard enough.

I was on the phone with a very nice TTB representative about another issue, and asked him to change my name. Otherwise, you would have to re-register.

I like any question regardless of how simple it is to look up. I am also lazy in researching for 2 reasons. 1: I can't find it easily and 2: I may not read it properly.

Just getting some feedback is good for everyone on the board.

I am the last person not to agree with this. I was referring to the refrigerator.

It only qualifies for a deduction in 2009 if he PAID it in 2009. It could be for the 2010 session (i.e, paid in advance.) OP said he paid it in 2010. So, deduction is in 2010. He may have gotten a 1098-T showing the amount billed.

I used to ask my Mon how to spell a word,,,,,she would alway say: "look it up in the dictionary",,,never could understand how to do that. LOL

That is exactly right. And to think, I have been mad about that this whole time.

You know, I hate that Form 1098-T. And that is not an exageration.

Not sure this form serves much useful purpose for reporting. Erroneous information or lack of information seems like at least 75% of the time.

One would think, that there would be more reporting procedures in place for this.
