Anybody happen to know if there's a way to get the client's OK to deliver to/receive from/discuss with/etc. that client's documents for future years? The form I have asks for a time period (2009 income tax, for example) and the problem is, some of the older clients aren't going to be of sound mind within a few years. Therefore getting the disclosure form signed under those circumstances would be (I think) meaningless.
I know the form says it expires in one year unless stated otherwise and I could just write in five years, ten years, or whatever, but I think that only relates to 2009 and not to later returns. I'd like to write up one that says tax returns 2009 through 2014, or list them all, or say "all future years" (probably out of the question) or the equivalent.
So, I guess the question is, can I get reword the disclosure form to get a client's okay NOW (while they've still got all their marbles) to discuss tax returns that don't exist yet? Maybe sort of like a POA for "whatever comes up."
