    Order of Credits

    Is there any publication or Reg that states the order in which credits are to be taken on the 1040?

    I don't know of any pub on this, but most of the time the credits are taken in the order they appear on the 1040. The education credit would have to be figured both ways to see which would be better for you client, either as an adjustment to income or tax credit.
