21 year old full time student would qualify for the American Opportunity Credit - refundable portion, except I don't think the earned income did not exceed one-half of their own support rule can be passed. He lived with his girlfriend, went to school full time and worked full time until lay-off, with $1,200 +/- wages and $5,000 +/- unemployment and student loans for support.
Can the wages only, not the unemployment, be used to conclude whether earned income exceeded 1/2 of support?
