    retired guys widowed in 2008

These guys are getting slammed this year. Jumping easily from 15% to 25% bracket. When MFJ they made the greater pension/SS income of the two. Now these guys have to file single this year, on similar income, but lower standard deduction; mortgage is paid, maybe a bump up for RE taxes, and they all seem to have bought a new car last year . But, in general, seeing quite a tax increase for this group.

    Well, that's interesting

I haven't seen this yet this year. I do have one fine gentleman that lost his wife in 2009, so next year will be the year for him. I told him to be expecting it. He said he knew it would be different. That's refreshing.

What's up with the new cars?

Had a client in here this morning wondering what it would save her on taxes to buy a new car. (She can't itemize.) I told her not enough, find a slightly used car.

Your post reminded me of a bad joke (I have no idea why):

Q: Why do men die before women?

    A: Because they want to.
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
