            Clients

These clients were really not at all stupid. He had built a business that would have been profitable if he had been hard nosed enough to avoid doing a lot of work for which he never got paid. She worked in the business too. This was after they had worked for other people for 25 years after High School He had been a Sergeant Major in the Army and she had been a paraprofesssional in a CPA firm. They had good pensions. But when it came to taxes and to finance generally he had no clue and she deferred to him out of her understanding of what the Lord wants of a woman.. I was finishing up their return one time when he handed me a letter. He said he didn't understand it and it probably was not important but since it was from the NC DOR he thought he would show it to me.

This was on a Thursday after business hours. The letter said they were six months behind paying State Sales Tax and had not responded to notices so someone would come by unannounced to seize assets if they did not make satisfactory arrangements within thirty days of the date of the letter, which deadline expired the following Tuesday. So when I explained the dire situation they were in he said "You mean there's a problem owing the government? Aint that a lot like owing yourself?"

                I see stupid people

My first post on this thread discussed a client who not being satisfied with my explanations for getting smaller refund than last year - I was afraid I wasn't going to get paid cause she was going to consult another prepaper.
Well - this week I got jointly signed e-file authorization forms and a check for the full fee.
