    HSA Deduction Prorated

Client made a contribution to an HSA of $4,000 for 2009. he is over 65 and enrolled in Medicare half way through the year. If i understand things correctly i will have to prorate his deduction because once inrolled in Medicare he became ineligible.

So he will get a $2,000 HSA deduction on his return.

    Amounts

Not sure about your amounts, but that is correct on the pro-ration. He will only be able to take a HSA deduction for the period prior to age 65.
