Problem determine Cost of Materials re engergy tax credit

I have encountered problems with several clients who are having difficulty in
determining the COST of materials when they paid to have windows or other
energy efficient items installed in their home. For many such expenditures
ONLY the cost of materials qualifies for this credit including an asphalt roof. A water
heater and a geothermal heat pump cost AND the installation DOES qualify for the
credit. You can EXPECT to have problems with this!.

    That has proven

to be a common problem for us also. We have had to send several back to their contractors to get the information. And to explain to them that the misc. parts and accessories that went into the installation do not count either. We have seen two contracting companies that actually spelled it out on the invoice and showed the customer their expected tax rebate. A good selling point for them to sell higher end products.
