    EF Alert

I just picked this up on my EF Alerts - and am not understanding exactly what it means, has any one else received feedback.

We have received additional information from the IRS concerning the limited number of 1040 returns containing unemployment compensation that resulted in reduced refunds.

Potentially affected returns will be listed as a new report in the EF Center. The report and instructions for fixing the returns will be available in the EF Center by the end of day Thursday, February 18, 2010. We will send a follow-up alert with instructions when the report is available.
Guessing maybe some software, or input is not giving the $2,400 reduction? My software automatically will calculate and then even calculate if both Taxpayer and Spouse receive unemployment in 2009. Or is it that the exlcusion is being taken twice, once by the software and then again reduced on entering?

Just thought I would post for all to watch for alerts from their own software/efile vendors.

That looks like a TaxWorks EF alert? If so, my guess would be TaxWorks is the software in question and it probably has to do with one specific way returns were filed early in the filing season. Perhaps on some version just inputting the amounts to the 1040 worksheet wasn't calculating the $2400 reduction?

We will have to wait until Thurs. We talked to TaxWorks and they said the only clients that were affected were those transmitted between 2/1 and 2/4. They said they would notify us Thurs of what clients affected and how to correct it.

in reading some of the posts on turbotax live community, it seems that people who received unemployment are subtracting it before entering it in programming and software is subtracting again. all because they read about the exclusion somewhere.
