Site for $250 Rebate Info?

Does anyone know if they have set up a website where we can check if someone has received the $250 rebate?

Sorry, no such website exists. According to this article, the only way to verify payment is for the taxpayer to call the appropriate agency and ask.

Does not exist. It sure would make things easier if there was.

You can't spend much time messin' with this junk or you won't be able to get any taxes done. If they bring in the SSA-1099 and tell you they drew social security all year, then you can assume with 99% accuracy that they got the $250. If you ask whether they got the $250, 99% will say "No" or "I don't think so" until they go check their bank statements and the answer becomes "Yes I did."

For part-year SSA recipients, they had to be signed up by the first few months to get it (I forget which ones -- do a search on the board -- it's posted here somewhere). Also ask everybody appropriate if they got VA or SSI (both paid the $250). Re -- the old pre-SSA withholding post office guys or other civil servants -- you'll probably know who those few are.

And I think it is an affront to the tax preparation industry. If they can find it out fast enough to reject it in a couple of hours they are saying it doesn’t matter that a preparer has to follow many rules and redo 8879’s inconveniently. They are saying that they are making it easier for the self preparer, because they can then redo their return conveniently.

I was thinking the exact same - if they can match the numbers to reject they should be able to set up a site to check similar to the stimulus payment. This is really frustrating. I'm also taking Bart's approach in that if they received Social Security all year I'm assuming they received the $250.

Today a client that was suppose to receive the refund Friday called to say it wasn't received. I checked the IRS refund site and it was deposited for $250 more with a message an error was found and an explanation will follow on Feb 22,2010.

I pulled the file and checked over, I can't find anything so I can't help but think it has something to do with the stupid $250 Economic payment. We'll see.

              $250.&*$%&*

Client last week swore that she did not get the $250. She got out her check book and said that she was sure she did not get it.... you guessed it. Return was rejected. It took me three calls to get in contact with her. Her response... there must have been a misunderstanding... I got the $250. Gotta love it!

                Who got the $ 250

They all got it unless they just started drawing SS this year. I follow the DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL approach. No one remembers getting it, but they all want to get it again.
