    HOH & Grandchild

I know but want to make sure because sometimes the brain is "locked." I believe that a grandparent fulfilling all the HOH rules of unmarried, and grandson dependency (age 10) rules would be able then to claim the HOH filing.

I am just trying in my mind to say be careful to the idea but... Am I missing something? Can someone walk me through the tests to verify?

    Thanks for your help.

See page 3-18 of TTB for a great flowchart that walks you through HOH filing status. Also refer to the dependency chart on page 3-15 if you need help determining if grandchild qualifies as dependent.

      Thanks KBTS

I think I have convinced my self that he is okay with the HOH based on circumstances of situation. He meets the tests.

No problem - glad to help. Just the other day a client said to me about a tax issue, "that makes no logical sense at all." I replied that taxes and logic have absolutely nothing in common. It is easy to get yourself confused over all this stuff, so it is nice to have a place like this board to look for help.
