    Ohio Preparers

I have a new client from OH. He states that the Governor just signed a new bill that makes his retirement there non taxable. He is a retire OH state employee.

I haven't found anything about this. Poor client also thought the Govenor could make the retirement non taxable by the Feds.

    Thanks for any insight.

    Ohio Retirement

    Is he retired on disability?

If so, the income may not be taxed by Ohio until he reaches retirement age...

Is he no longer living in Ohio? Is the retirement income taxed by his state of residence?

Thanks for the pointer about disability. He is now 62 so I will ask about the disablilty issue.

He has moved to Texas so no state income tax here.
It may end up being a mute point afterall. If I prorate his income to Ohio, it may not meet taxable level anyway.

        new requirments for

Ohio residents, prior residents and part year residents. There is a new white-line rule in effect to determine if a person is still an Ohio resident or not. If they wish to declare a new state as residence there is a new form that must be filed to exempt income that was taxed in Ohio in prior years. I do not have that form number handy.. Long day!! ;-) This was done because so many of Ohio residents spend part of the year in Florida (or Texas) and try to claim residency there even tho they still have a residence in Ohio . (snowbirds). Sometimes I think half the state winters down south. tho I really cant fault them with the problems around here.
