NT / These people are killing me

So my "friend" calls me today at home. I knew the conversation was going to get around to taxes. (Please don't do that, people!)

Friend: Do I need that thing from the college? (aka 1098-T)

Me: No, just go through your paperwork and tell me what you paid.

    Friend: What paperwork?

Me: You know, canceled checks, printouts from the college, etc.

Friend: Well, we really didn't pay anything.

    Me: Oh, well, great. Scholarships?

    Friend: No. Loans.

So, Edsel and Black Bart, it's official. TN is #50. MS and AL can duke it out for #49.

If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Rita- I was just thinking this morning that I get this every single week. Not a soul realizes they are eligible for tuition benefits based on borrowed funds. No one. Think of the $$ the DIY's leave behind. I struggle each year to improve my communication with people on this subject. Barb

      Yeah, my friend

Yeah, my friend up there needs her 2008 DIY return amended. She has no idea where it is, either. Records? I don't need no stinkin records...

If she's like some of the people I talk to, she gave her originals to the school financial aid office.

Had another one just this morning, BP. Looked at me like I had two heads when I explained that buying on credit IS buying. You ARE going to pay that back. Trust me, trust me, trust me.

Perhaps they prefer to trust DC on this issue.
