    Another Surprise!

I just got off phone with a new referral from Maryland. After completing her tax, she would get about $3,000 from Fed but pay back $19 to Maryland. She wanders why she would pay MD when in the past 4years she's being filing, she always get refunds from both. I told her to fax her 2008. She sent only state. I found she filed single, grossed $22,000 and got $1,200 back.(Eveything she paid to state!). The problem is part of the refund included an MD EITC of $824. That was the red flag for me.Because that was supposed to be 50% of Federal EITC.

Our friend has been doing her taxes on-online! So Why isn't IRS looking more at all these DIYs? She was 20 years last Dec.
