After Feb. 1
This is the msg. I get from my tax program.
Oregon Critical Diagnostics
A special election will be held on January 26, 2010 that may affect how a 2009
Oregon tax return is filed. This election will affect the tax rates,
how much unemployment compensation is taxed and the amount of the federal tax liability
subtraction. The Oregon Department of Revenue asks that taxpayers wait to file
their returns until after February 1, 2010. The department will not begin
processing returns until after February 1, 2010. Filing before then will delay the
processing of your return.

Oregon e-filing early
However, if taxpayer doesn't have unemployment and taxable income is less than $125k or $250k (MFJ), they can e-file now. The return will be acknowledged by Dept of Revenue and will sit in a queue until Feb. 1. I have e-filed some already, advising clients that there will be a delay in processing but they will be toward the beginning of the queue. And that gets those early, easy returns out of my hair now and I won't have to deal with them after Feb. 1st when I get busier.
