I forget the exact date, but anyone who was drawing Soc Sec as of a certain date was to get it. I am sure the date is on the Soc Sec website.

Not that I can tell, with the probable exception of having the recipient call the SSA, endure elevator music, and (whatever).

I even sent that specific question to the SSA web site - and also asked if the payment information (it's not taxable) might even show up on the Form 1099-SSA - still waiting for an email answer.

At this stage about the best you can do is go with the "should have" approach...namely anyone who was receiving Soc Sec in the past in all likelihood got the payment - even though they might not necessarily "remember" it.

I just viewed the first SS statement. I didn't see anything in regards to the $250.

            Electronic filing error checking

At one of the tax classes I was at, the IRS representative stated that part of the electronic filing error check routines would be to see if the $250 payments were included on Schedule M. If that is a true statement it means that the IRS obviously has current access to that information. It is frustrating that they will not share it with tax preparers. It would save some headaches in the long run. My guess is that they really don't own the information and it would take too much haggling between government agencies (Social Security/VA/IRS) to open up a web page similar to the Stimulus site.

My approach will be to assume the clients who were eligible to get the $250 deposits got them. I wonder if the IRS error checking routine would reject a return if the $250 payment was claimed on the Schedule M in error (recipient got first SSN check too late in year to
            qualify for $250).
