Not Tax - "The Problem With Airport Security"

Something that made the radio & TV reports today in my hometown.

Jerry Orr, the plainspoken Airport Director for the Charlotte, NC airport was asked in an interview why there are so many delays in getting new security screening devices operational. He replied - "...it all boils down to who should be lookin' at you naked."

Here's the link, and what really gives the phrase its punch is Jerry's classic southern accent. After the commercial ends, skip forward about halfway through the story. Jerry is the guy in the brown jacket.

    Simple observation

Well, there is a great difference between "naked" and "nekkid"

It was good to see some WBTV reports again.

      Dialup

I'm at home on a dial-up connection so I don't watch videos but I do have a question if anyone knows the answer. Why can't they work things so that the picture of the passenger naked is viewed only by the screener? They could even arrange to have both male and female screeners and let you chose who you want looking at you.

I have the answer, thanks to the wisdom of that great Southern Philosopher, Lewis Grizzard:
"Naked" means you ain't got any clothes on.
"Nekkid" means you ain't got any clothes on and you're up to something.

What happens when you go through the line and say "I want that nice-looking blonde screener looking at my scan - I think she'll be impressed!"

My husband is a screener and I don't want him looking at anyone naked or nekkid. He'll be retiring in a couple years so hopefully it will take that long before this all comes into effect.

If we could just abandon the PC rules against racial or ethnic profiling we could solve this problem. If you are a male of Arab descent or your name is Omar, Abdul, or Mohamed then expect a little more time at the check in. It's not racist, it's just good security. How many 60 year old females named Bertha or Grace have been caught with bombs? Why bother checking? Life isn’t fair, governments have their powers derived from the people in order to protect and defend us as a whole, not to coddle or mollify a “sensitive” segment of the population.
In other words, a democratic government is the only one in which those who vote for a tax can escape the obligation to pay it.

                  Israel

Just ask Israel. They haven't had a problem in many years since they started profiling.

The inane classification and screening rules of the TSA always remind me of when I
was traveling from Baltimore/Washington airport returning home several years ago from
an NAEA meeting. You may remember when TSA first started randomly picking out
people for further screening, and taking maybe every 40th person for the honors.

In line before me were perhaps 7 Boy Scout troops returning home from a jamboree,
and this little kid maybe 9 years old, was looking so scared and bewildered as he was
                        the 40th person.

No. 1 If your on the watch list you ain't getting on the plane.

No. 2 I won't be flying if the screeners be spying.
