Who reports the sale?

Spouse received land pursuant to a divorce agreement which called for them to split the net proceeds once it was sold.

It sold and the attorney issued a 1099 for half to each.

Does that mean they each report half of the sale ....... or should the spouse report the entire sale?

I can see both sides to the issue. But, for me, the fact that the Lawyer issued both a 1099 then both have to report their portion of the sale.

You need to know how the land was titled at the time of the sale. 1099s are not determinative and the fact that an attorney's office issued them increases the chance that they're incorrect.
