    Itemized deductions - Real estate taxes

    Will a taxpayer who does not itemize (long form), but pays his property taxes , be given
    the $500 ($1,000- couple) added deduction on his standard deduction like 2008?

      At least not automatically. It really depends on how much one pays, and that may be
      less than the limits.

      For example I have quite a few older than65 clients who pay no property taxes, so they
      are not entitled.

        Well, that's true.

        But I guess I unwisely made the assumption (yeah, I know) that the OP was referring to folks who at least paid $500 or $1000.
