    Nys Seminar

I just got back from a seminar given by NYS in which NYS now blames CPA's, Attorney's and EA's for a large portion of the tax fraud that is going on in NYS. They intend to present "make believe" clients, unknow to the practioner, to do their sobbering tax return. Client will say "I don't have that kind of money, Can you do something for me". And if He/She does something, He/She is in deep DO DO. Loss of license, practice and jail time.

I'm sure this will spill over to other states in the near future as NY will tell everyone how well it has worked..............

By the way, This is just one method being used. Upstate NY is having a field day looking for non filers and finding them. See the attached:

    Good Enforcement

Bob, even though the seminar portrayed NYS as blaming tax professionals, the linked article does not.

If you read the article you referenced, and believe the press release, NYS is getting off their butts and getting out into the field and doing a good job. The article does not say they are blaming tax professionals.

All of the people mentioned appear to be taking a flippant view of their filing responsibility. I don't read anything in the article where their tax consultants have contributed to the problem.

I would much rather them get out in the field and go after these folks than to sit back and bureaucratically write legislation to try and put the responsibility on tax preparers for these folks. Many of the folks mentioned perhaps had tax professionals entreating them to do right and they have too much of a God-complex to listen to them.

Appearently you did not read my full post. Before you post next time, make sure you read it correctly.

The sobbering client program has not started yet, but the non-filler program has.
