I'm cleaning my computer and believe it is time to remove the 2007 Web CD since I have 2008 and 2009 will soon be here. How do you save the updates? They are obviously not on the CD and if I uninstall will be lost from my computer. Any suggestions?

One way that will work
is to also save the update files when you do updates. That's what I do only I found out the hard way that it's important to also save them other than on your computer's hard drive because that drive can be lost. (If you don't have the update files for 2007 perhaps someone can give them to you. If you don't have the 2008 update files you can get them the same way you originally got them but not for much longer.)
I don't personally remove programs but then the hard drive on my four year old computer is only one third full. What I do is put most programs I don't think I want to use any more in a desktop folder labeled "unwanted programs" and the tax related ones in a separate folder labeled "old tax progs".

I just had to format my hard drive and had to reinstall The Tax Book, for 2006, 2007 and 2008. I then had to go through and install (from the web site) all the updates, it did not take very long. I did discover that the 2006 CD I had, included all the updates.
It would be nice if we were sent a final CD with all the updates, but would add to the price of the product, not nice.
I don't know if we can do a backup that would include all the updates. That is a good questions for the folks at The Tax Book.
Another idea would be if for all the prior years they could include all the updates into ONE DOWNLOAD. That would really be NICE.

It's such a PIA to have to reinstall, and more so, to have to update all programs.

If you load the WebCD in the default location on your hard drive, and install all updates in their default location, the 2008 WebCD and all updates are located at:
C:\Program Files\TheTaxBook 2008 WebCD\
The WebCD is simply a series of linked PDF files. There is nothing else to the program. Acrobat Reader is the software used to open the PDF files, and that software is not located in the WebCD folder, nor does it need to be saved with the WebCD files as it is its own independent program.
Look in your C:\Program Files folder to see the exact name of the 2007 WebCD folder and the 2006 WebCD folder. I no longer have those programs loaded in their original location so I don’t know the exact names of their folders. I would have to re-load from the original disks to find out.
Once you have located the main folder where the entire WebCD is located, simply copy that folder to a CD or other data backup location. If you ever want to re-load the WebCD back to your hard drive, copy and paste it back to your hard drive. The home page startup icon is the first PDF file you see when you open that folder. When you open up the restored data files, the updates will be included.
A heads up on the new 2009 WebCD: Every time you run an update for the 2009 version, it will include all updates. Thus, you could miss a few, run that latest update, and it will include all updates. That way if you ever need to reload the WebCD from the disk, you simply run the last update to get all updates. There is also talk of possible archive disks in the future. Nothing decided yet.
