Reset password for message board

I am unable to reset my password in the "edit username/password" after being issed a temporary password. I use my username & the temp password and get the message:

You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again.
You may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

What am I doing wrong? I need to reset to something I will remember.

User CP

Under User CP, there's a setting for changing your password. You type in your current (temporary) password and then the new one you want and type that new one a second time. Then, I think, you're ready to press Save. Go out and try coming back in with your new password.
