If so what do you think? Seems to me it will take some time for my tax software (Pro Series) to become capadable along with other softwares I have.

I have 5 copies on the way (should be here today). I have run the RC since June with 0 problems(taxwise and quickbooks pro 09). Since it is largely based off Vista, anything that will run on Vista will run on 7. Also if you have a cpu that support virtualization and buy pro, you can run "xp" mode for software that wont run in Vista/7.

I know
I need to purchase another computer as a backup to network with existing - I know I don't want Vista - don't know about Win 7 - My computer tech says if I have one on XP PRo and one on Win 7 with the option of XP Pro installed, might function, that is not confident building for me --- don't like that "might"
Going to check with my Tax Software, and Quickbooks and my other Software Providers and see

Win XP or 7
I've been using Win XP Pro for years, I even have 4 XP Pro operating systems in reserve to upgrade computers if necessary. I use OEM software.
Never ever a problem with XP or software running on XP. I will not be changing operating system EVER, course I'm 78 years old so EVER is not far off. LOL
Using TaxWise for 17 years, up to 1550 clients at this time and taxwise has run like a champ on XP for years, along with Quickbooks, and MS Office and many more programs. All run perfect. If it's not broke,,,da da daLast edited by RLymanC; 10-26-2009, 11:52 PM.Confucius say:

Information I received is that you cannot upgrade from XP direct to Win 7. The harddrive must be backed up and then reformatted before installing Win 7. Then the backup programs reinstalled. Since I have not had any problems with XP I'll stick with it as long as possible. I usually skip every other Microsoft upgrade, but skipping Vista and Win 7 may be my choice. Haven't heard any compelling reason to upgrade, XP is plenty fast enough for office use."A man that holds a cat by the tail learns something he can learn no other way." - Mark Twain

I use Taxwise also on an XP OS, but I DID notice this past year that the search function
for clients has been changed and can only search based on social security number, versus previously been able to search by name. Also, and most important, the search
time is dreadfully slow. Are these your experiences?ChEAr$,

From the taxwise screen click file, scroll down to search/query for taxpayer, from the search screen you have MANY options for the search, including last name.
Search time can be a little slow, has to do with speed of your computer. I'm running a Pentium 4 dual core 3.2 GHz with 3 Gigs of memory, all reports come up very good.Confucius say:

I was wondering if you know if I can install XP (software that came with my current computer) on a new computer once my old computer breaks down. So is the licensing with the user or with the computer?

If your software is OEM, if it came with your computer I would guess yes it is OEM, you will not be able to use again. Call Microsoft and explain your hard drive cashed, they may allow another installation. Do you have tjhe product Key Code?Confucius say:

opening the return of a client still in process, IOW "Open an existing return" on the
main screen. The next screen is the trouble maker using only SSN to open the return.
Up through last year one could use partial names to instantly highlight the first
instance containing that partial string.ChEAr$,

I don't have a crash right now but don't want to be at the mercy of Microsoft should it happen. I had to reinstall my operating system twice so I know I can install but was wondering about installing it on a new computer if I don't use the old computer anymore. If you don't know I will work my way through Microsoft.
