IRS Sends Erroneous Form 941 CP Notices

I'm not sure if this will affect many, but just in case - from NATP newsletter:

Employers filing the paper Form 941, Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return, may have received erroneous CP207/207L notices.

The IRS discovered that during the scanning process, not all the information was collected on the Schedule B, Report of Tax Liability for Semiweekly Schedule Depositors, attached to Form 941 that caused a significant number of the CP207/207L notices to be mailed in error.

The problem has been corrected and should not be an issue for third quarter filings. The IRS asks that employers who received a CP207/207L notice in error to please resubmit the appropriate Schedule B along with the notice to the IRS as soon as possible to avoid additional erroneous notices.

    Typical

I had a client receive one, and his comment is that "You (meaning me) made a mistake."

I know that the Schedule B was attached. I sent in a copy to the IRS.

I wish the IRS would now send a letter saying that I didn't make a mistake.

I had one of those too and I know the "B" was attached. I wish the service would acknowledge the problesm their errors cause us.

        More of the same...

My one and only EO received a letter last week from theIRS demanding their 2008 tax return (990) and that it was overdue. Problem is they are on a fiscal year ending June 30th and the return isn't due until November 15th!! I called PHL and they already were well aware of the mistake on all FY entities that end in June 2009 and said to disregard the letter. Thanks IRS, nothing like mucking up the system with this kind of stunt.
