In past discussions many on this board have stated they don’t handle many audits. I had two last week and noticed they were using some brand new software. The big difference I noted was that summary numbers for 3 tax years were displayed on the screen. The auditor could quickly check for trends or if making an adjustment could look at that number in two other years without resorting to paper.
Both examiners made mention that the bugs were still being worked out. In one case there were two “C” schedules, one for each taxpayer, on a MFJ return and the new software switched them around. He was unable to get the system to match the original return before making changes.
Taxpayers pushing the 3 of 5 rule on schedule “C” might want to keep their records in a orderly manner.
