here's one
Taxpayer comes in finally with 2008 tax info. I'm looking through a hud-1 which shows disbursements to someone in the 6 figure range.
Me- Who is Mr Blank?
client- son in law, gave him money to build addition on his house for me.
Me- Oh, you gave a gift?
Client- Noooooooooooooo! It is money for the addition.
Me- do you have ownership in the property?
Client -no
Me- then it's a gift.
Client- No I loaned the money.
Me- explaining the rules, plus adding son in law is going to freak out.
I expect a call soon from son in law.
him-The money is for her addition it's not a gift.
Me- The donor is responsible for the tax on the gift.
Him- I don't want to pay taxes on that money. I'm going to sue you!
Me- It's just a paperwork thing there is nothing to worry about.
Him- You better not report this!Last edited by veritas; 08-28-2009, 04:21 PM.
