    HRB question

Can clients of HRB request a copy of their tax return on a CD? If so what is the cost?

In our office, no. We don't have the ability to transfer any of our info like that. And I haven't heard of any offices having that ability.

We are very restricted about giving out copies.

      have to disagree

Clients anywhere can request anything. It's only getting what they request that may not be possible.

HRB will provide a printed paper copy.

And if they provide an electronic copy of the form in what format?

        Their propriatory archive format?

        IRS eFile transmission format?

        PDF file?

        Word Doc format?

          Pdf

Most people who have computers have at least Adobe Reader and the rest can get it. Most people couldn't read the company's or the IRS's formats and you wouldn't want to use Word Format because they could easily change it. I could be wrong but I think that if someone has a paid version of Adobe they can change the document but not without making it clear to anyone else who has the paid version that they did make changes.

Because Block has so many offices and employees, they have very strict policies about giving out anything, including copies of returns. If you someone needs a copy and they are local, they can come by, ID themselves, and we will provide them with a paper copy. If they are in another area, they can go to any Block office. That office can access the return done in another office from the main computer and print one for them. If, for some reason, they can't get the info off the computer, they can call the office the return was prepared in and that office can fax a copy to the other office.

We are not allowed to fax to any place other than another Block office. We cannot fax to a mortgage comp., a school, a loan officer, etc. Because we don't have the ability to email with a secure system, we don't send anything by email either. Due to privacy problems, we have to ID them before we give a copy.

Tax Preparer Regulations, issued by the Dept. of the Treasury, limit the disclosure of tax return information.
