    CSTC Summer Symposium

I'd like to invite anyone and everyone in need of CPE or just a good conference to the CA Society of Tax Consultants Summer Symposium in Las Vegas May 31-June 3. I believe we are holding the discounted early price-you'll have to contact them to find out. Anyways, its a good conference, the hotel is inexpensive and yours truly will be there. And since there is a ton of federal CPE you don't have to be a californian to attend (or even to be a member for that matter), or if you do CA returns you can get some idea of the wierd things we do over here. We are also having an EA cram course for anyone taking the EA exam, or people with a strange idea of fun.

    here's the link

And for those of you on multiple message boards like I am, I apologize for shamelessly promoting our seminar. Well, not for shameless promotion, but for you having to read it a bunch of times.

This group needs to pick another date...the CSEA super seminars are in Reno during this time. I am not going to them this year for various reasons, both personal and professional. However, if your group held it's courses in late June or even July, I would be interested. It seems that everybody is putting on their classes at the same time.

Actually ours starts right after the CSEA one. Don't know why they are all concentrated at this time...my ASWA conference isn't until October, which is quite nice although a few times they've had it right during the week of Oct 15th (since they are not just tax, I think the accounting/auditors picked that one).

As someone who has booked conferences for a professional org, trust me it is not easy. You are generally at the mercy of the hotels, and normally these things are booked a couple of years out. You have to try not to conflict with other org's conferences, continuing ed classes, etc. You can't have anything during tax season, and then there are payroll quarterly filing dates, tax extension dates, summer vacations, football season, Halloween (if you can believe that one), Thanksgiving, you name it and any date is going to be a problem for someone, and I have heard all of them.
