    E-file Form 4868

Does anyone have an official citation, or link, or IRS communcation concerning extensions that are electronically filed on the 14th or the 15th?

Like, what happens if it's REJECTED for some bizarre reason, e.g., a typo in the SSN or DOB?

In previous years there has been some sort of grace period to cure the reject...

Anyone have anything current on this sort of thing?

My program will not elf the form unless the box is checked to freeze the amounts. I think it would work the same way as a rejected return. I can't imagine why it would not be accepted but you should have 5 days to refile it. If not, I would just send the reject form in with the original form you tried to file.kaimana

Rejected returns & extensions can be retransmitted through April 20th and be considered timely filed.

I think it's the 11AM drain on the 20th though. Safest bet is to transmit no later than the 19th.

If you can't get it to go through electronically you can paper file the return within 10 days of the rejection. I think you're supposed to attach a copy of the rejection to the paper filed return, but not sure on that. Information on that is in Pub 1345.
