I have an old client who contacted me recently. She has not filed her returns since 2003 when I last prepared them. She usually has refunds. Her 2003 Federal refund was over $2,800. She just brought me 2004-2008.
She has an IRS letter for the tax year ending 12/31/05 that says "if you are due a refund, you must do the following:
-file within 3 years from the due date of the return, or file within 2 years from the date the tax was paid, whichever is later.
Will she still get her refunds for 2004? What about her Michigan refund? Anyone know if they issue refunds that far back? It looks like I better get her 2005 returns done and post marked by Wednesday. Thanks.
