    Ten to go.

    How's everybody else comin along?

    #2
    I have about 25 people's stuff here

But, I am not breaking my neck to get any of them done. First job now is get my OWN extension. (Boy, that sounds bad.) Then, everybody else's extension. I have 56 on the list. The phone has rung like crazy today. I don't answer it on Saturdays. I figure I'll have a bunch more to do when I check messages.

Second job is enjoy Easter with my family tomorrow, and not touch a computer.

I have to share this one: Chipper lady came in FRIDAY with a 40 lb stack of crap. She has a partnership, her deceased Dad's personal, then her and her sister's personal. I have never done ANY of them. She was actually surprised when I told her I couldn't get them done. Asked me if I knew anybody who could. Go through the phone book and see, I told her.

She left the stuff here, not sure I'm glad about that...
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

34 extensions already filed, and about 15 extensions left to complete. Plus about 10 MIA's - maybe a half-dozen or less of them will call or walk in on Mon & Tues for their extensions. A couple of the others will probably show up sometime after the 15th.

Once the extensions are all finished, then maybe I'll go back and complete a few of the returns in the extension stack by around the 15th or 16th, provided I feel like it. If not, I'll take a few days off and get back to work in a week or so.

I wish I only had ten to go, haven't taken the time to tally where I'm at.

I turn my ringer off on weekends and have a HUGE closed sign. Had someone stop to pick up her returns, sign was out but door was not locked as my son had just come in....."you're not really closed are you?" I told her yes but let her pick up her return...She gave me a $50 tip! Put a smile on my face.

          3 or 4

more, I put everyone (8) on extension but I have finished a couple of them. I have some health issues that need attention pronto so I hope to finish the rest this summer. This is not what I had in mind for this year, I was hoping I would have everyone finished by the 15th.

            Too many

A MFJ vs. MFS comparison, an LLC/partnership plus personal return, two trust funds for two sons with own returns (other income) plus parents' returns plus kiddie tax re the two sons, a little old guy with Parkinson's who took out over $100,000 from his IRA to pay his health care workers and owes a bundle, and new clients who are both self-employed and need to decide on how much in SEPs and HSAs and...that I really want to complete by Wednesday and put many, many more on extension (including ours!) by Wednesday and make a number of calculations re payments with extensions. Still getting calls, but at least these recent calls realize extensions are now mandatory, except for the little old lady with memory problems who called HRB even though I've been gone for two years and doesn't know when things are due. Tired and cranky and need to shower 'cause clients are coming to pick up in an hour. Happy Easter every one. Good luck to all of us.

Lawrence, take care of YOURSELF, by all means! Taxes can wait. I'll be praying for you.

I myself have neck/shoulder/arm problems, everything is affecting everything else, I guess. I have had three shoulder surgeries in three years. I moved the mouse over to the left in September, which is all that saved me this season. Looking forward to some rest, as I know all of you are.

Hope you all know you are appreciated. So nice to come here for advice, support, humor, the whole works. Thanks to all!

                Made me cuirous

Well, I got curious as I read this post so I stopped to see where I stand. I really needed to do that so that I can focus for the next 4 days.
I have 7 personal returns that are ready to be picked up and one to be delivered and 2 that I need to email signature forms to so that I can get them back before filing electronically.
One s corp finished and just one more piece of info to finish personal.
Two s corps to finish and one personal to go with an s corp.
one personal I'm working onith a schedule C business
New client mailed me her s corp and personal info.
one old client dropped off his "mess" - used to have s corp - don't know if he still does.
13 on extension. That is the most I have ever had.
I have 5 appointments on the calendar for Monday and Tuesday. One of those is definitely going on an extension. He has an s corp and personal return and is a new client. But I have those 7 people that need to come in and pick up their returns before Wednesday afternoon.

This is the most that I have ever had pending this late in April. My regular clients are late coming in and new people are still calling.

No wonder I can't think straight. Plus when the 15th is over, I have quarterly reports to do and bookkeeping to go with it.

                Help meeeeeeeeeeee!

                  S-corps are late

You do realize that corporations were due 15 March? Too late to put them on extension, now. Just finished a partnership and imported the K-1s into the personal. Think I'll wait until I've had a good night's sleep to import their 140 page brokerage statement into the Schedule D. Haven't started doing extensions, probably all day Wednesday except for a couple I need to get them amounts to pay sooner. More extensions than usual, but a bit fewer than a year ago. People came later with brokerage statements coming out later this year. And, I have more people receiving K-1s each year. I am soooooooo tired and my eyes are burning. People are still calling. Wish I had all these huge ones with kiddie tax and large Schedule Ds and self-employment and partnerships and what-if questions re their SEPs and HSAs and SIMPLEs at the beginning of the season before I fried my brain! I have a gal coming Monday night who will do some deliveries for me, one pick-up, and retrieve some signature pages.

                    I quit

I'm about in the same boat as oceanlovin. Except I am just out of enthusiasm. My 16 year old dog had a big problem and we spent most of the day at the emergency vet clinic. She's better now, but none too happy about the dope they gave her so lots of pacing and refusing to lay down and rest.

So, no work today and I have a monster return to finish by Monday. And I'm really not in the mood anymore to kowtow to these bunch of last minute losers.

Except for the last minute losers are mostly the returns that cost over $1k. I'm starting to really rethink their value. I'm starting to believe sincerely that there isn't enough money in the world to put up with this crap. I have a dentist client who strings me along all year because he thinks avoiding me means he doesn't have to pay his taxes. He's fired as of tomorrow. I'm tired of playing nanny. I called his cell and his office and left messages. If I don't hear from him I'll file an extension and that's the end of that.

I have another potential new client. Another loser I have chasing after since NOVEMBER for his bookkeeping. Nothing. A few days ago he started dribbling information to me. See ya kid.

I have one huge SCorp with over $20m in sales. I have to estimate the taxes due. I can easily be off by $50k with those kind of numbers. They don't make appropriate estimated tax payments, so it's on me to come up with it every effing year at the last minute. Their inhouse accounting is dismal and cannot close the books until well into March. I start "helping" in November but there's only so much I can do. They can't get their paperwork together until YESTERDAY. With tax returns and financial statements, I bill this client around $7k. I'm starting to think it isn't worth it. It's like this every single year.

And I'm going to be up all night with my poor old sick dog. And all I really want is for her to be young again and live as long as I do.

                    Thanks for listening.

I have a 4 state confusion that I really should have input a week ago to try to sort out, but didn't. oh well. works for one company but moved east & I think the W-2s are all wrong. have NYS taxing 100% of her income, even the part earned in CA before she moved. NYC taxing 34K, NJ taxing 39K, PA taxing 69K, & she lived in CA until March 20, NYC april 1-may 15 & PA May 15-present. Wow. writing that out actually helped me put my mind around it!

New one came in today, but was well aware of his extension needs, as was the one that referred him. Got to remember to put the money in my IRA. file all the extensions....

                          Did extensions

I did extensions for the s corps. But still wanted to try to get them finished so the personal would be filed on time.

Writing this all out really did help me to know exactly where I am and what I need to work on first.

See you all at the end.
