    Minister Medical

New client. But we have several other ministers as clients.

Thie minister has cancer. The church took up an offering and gave it to him for medical expenses written on a church check. A few other churches heard about the cancer and they also took up collections and gave him the money.

All monies were paid direclty to the minister. Am I correct that this is income and subject to SE? Or should it go on line 21 other income?

If he were not a minister and the neighbors took up an sum of money and gave it to him because of hardship .... It would be a gift (IMO)

If a church takes up a collection to give to a family or person in hardship - IMO - it would be a gift.

Hard to figure this one out. Employee minister funds may be taxable.
From other churches (not his employee) I don't think taxable.

This is based on the "3rd Book of Opinions, Chapter 12 v. 1

      I found it

Gifts from his own church, where he is an employee, are taxable and subject to SE.

Gifts from other churches are just gifts. (up to the gift limits of course)

      Thanks

Just to clarify, a person can receive any amount of gifts. There is no limit. But, the giver of the gift would have a limit before they had to file a gift tax return.
