    Employee Business Expenses Form 2106

    For the above mentioned expenses:

    "An ordinary expense is one that is common and accepted in your field of trade, business, or profession. A necessary expense is one that is helpful and appropriate for your business. An expense does not have to be required to be considered necessary."

    Is the above statement all together accurate? Something is not exactly right. Can someone give the correct information if this is not?

    Let's see. Paper clips are ordinary and necessary for our line of work, but they aren't required. We can deduct those.

    Single malt scotch could be considered required for our line of work, but is not ordinary nor necessary so we can't deduct it.

    I don't know who writes these rules...

          So...

          I am going to presume that ordinary and necessary, business purpose, and required for the benefit of the employer. No reimbursement made by the employer; therefore, deductible given no payments made by employer to employee.

          I know what was correct but saw the previously mentioned piece on a website and wanted to get opinions.
